Oxygen absorbers are small packets that look like tea bags. They are used to prolong the shelf life of dehydrated and freeze dried foods. They are made from iron oxide and their main function is to remove the remaining oxygen inside of cans or mylar pouches so the food inside the container will remain fresh longer.
These oxygen absorbers come in packages of (50 packets). Once the package is opened, you must quickly put the remaining unused packets into a glass canning jar with a tight fitting lid to prevent them from absorbing the oxygen from the air. One absorber is used for every gallon of product being stored. Food such as dried foods, wheat and grains, pasta, rice, beans, etc...can be stored in containers with oxygen packets in them.
